Manny P. here…

“`Record label Caedmon Audio specialized in spoken-word recordings, pairing great literary works with fine actors. James Mason reading the poetry of Robert Browning, Walter Brennan bringing Mark Twain to life, and Sir Laurence Olivier as Winston Churchill.

“`Basil Rathbone and Vincent Price interpreted works of Edgar Allan Poe over the course of five hours. Rathbone was, of course, a South African-born Shakespearean actor who is most famous for playing Sherlock Holmes in a string of films and radio plays. And he was also a veteran star of low budget horror cinema like Tales of Terror. Vincent Price was an iconic villain in dozens of gothic adaptations, including Roger Corman’s campy cinema adaptations including The House of Usher and The Raven.

“`The Caedmon recordings are now available on Spotify. Poe’s gothic approach pairs well with Rathbone and Price’s sinister baritone voices.

Until next time>                               “never forget”
