Manny P. here…

89.3 KPCC is reporting a local group, Homeowners on Beachwood Drive United, comprised of people living in the Hollywoodland neighborhood, is taking the city of Los Angeles to court over access to the Hollywood sign. The city’s most iconic landmark is at the center of a fight between tourists who snake through neighborhoods to see it and residents who live there.

`

hollywood sign   Currently, hikers can travel up along N. Beachwood Dr. and cut through a gate near Sunset Ranch Hollywood to access a trail leading up to the famous marker. However, the path is dangerous due to no designated parking – they must park on the street – nor are there any sidewalks. Because of heavy congestion, emergency vehicles might have trouble maneuvering around cars.

The route published online has driven up awareness. Plus, former city councilman Tom LaBonge promoted the sign as a top tourist spot. This tourism boom is pretty recent.

All the residents really want is the city to invest in other routes with infrastructure  such as parking and public bathrooms. Hence, the lawsuit…

   Bulletins as they break…
